Return to What Libraries are doing
Stockport rebranded their assistive technology sessions as computer coffee mornings.
"We promote the sessions in all our libraries, via Eyeline Stockport Institute for the Blind, the Talking Newspaper, Age Concern, in the local press, on our website, via the Sensory Loss Team in the council etc. This time we have also send details to a few older persons/retired groups, as we want to broaden the audience. At the sessions we show people how to use Cicero, Prisma and Browse Aloud. We also have Supernova, but experience has shown that a longer, one-to-one session is needed if people want a taster on this. But people can try out our audio tape, that includes the basic Supernova commands. We also have a display of Large Print books, talking books on tape and CD and audio described videos. As the poster is fairly general we do get people coming along with general computer queries rather than just assistive ones. So our colleagues, who provide computer taster sessions, are also there to help out."
